Welcome. I'm not sure how you found the site, but I'm pleased you are here! So.. what is this site all about? The short answer is "Maps." The longer answer is that I like to map our historical rail routes. They are gone but you can sure see them if you know where to look. This site is my humble way of contributing and collecting details before we loose them. Scroll down and have a look at a sample CGW map.
The folks at Union Pacific have announced they intend to obliterate all of their buildings in Oelwein Iowa. For those that don't see the issue, their buildings are centered around their 100' by 1000', multi-bay engine shops originally built in the 1890's. In fantastic shape, the facilities are one of a very few remaining examples of period construction and deserve to be maintained. For the time being, I've decided to dedicate this site to distributing information about Preserving the Oelwien Yards. Take a look and see how you can help.

If you have been to this site before, you may be wondering why the maps are different. Simple: the first site got hacked and to make sure it won't happen again, I've changed servers and Wiki platforms. As you might expect, it will take some time to move the data.
For now... I'll work on adding content as fast as I can
